Process and Activities supported by Product life cycle management

PR Log (Press Release) – Dec 12, 2009 – Product life cycle management in the apparel industry
Product life cycle management (PLM) is a set of business processes and supporting tools which help firms to improve the way they manage their product development. It is particularly useful for apparel manufacturers who need to respond to new fashion trends quickly or collaborate closely with customers and suppliers in order to remain competitive. In general terms, PLM systems can help companies to improve their internal and external communications, ensure that everyone is using the same data, and organise the flow of data between participants involved in a product’s supply chain. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=128411&rt=Produc ... )
Several software companies offer specialised PLM packages which are geared to the textile and apparel industry—including large global organisations such as Lawson and Lectra as well as smaller software suppliers such as Yunique and DeSL. Other suppliers include PTC and Dassault Systèmes, which began by developing software for the engineering industries and adapted their systems to the needs of soft goods companies. Specialised PLM packages are designed to support a number of key processes and activities in the clothing industry, including line planning, storyboarding, colour management, computer aided design (CAD), management of fabrics and trims, management of product data, cost estimation, sourcing and supplier management, tracking a product’s development, acquiring and storing business intelligence, and reporting.
The Hong Kong-based apparel manufacturer TAL Apparel is using a product called Lawson Fashion PLM to collaborate with its suppliers on the development of textiles and trims. TAL Apparel’s sister company in the USA, The Apparel Group, is using the same product to develop fabric and garment specifications with its textile suppliers, with TAL, and with garment factories. The benefits to be gained from using a PLM system are clear and measurable—provided the system is planned, designed and implemented with care. They include faster time-to-market, an improved cost structure, and an improvement in quality. Some textile and apparel companies have reduced their resampling by 25-40% while others have increased their component reuse by up to 30%. Gini & Jony—India’s leading brand of clothes for children and young adults—has found that its PLM system has provided it with more time to focus on creativity, by enabling it to cut the time spent recording the details of each new range by up to 50%.

LANXESS Inaugurates New Leather Chemicals Production Line in China

PRLog (Press Release) – Nov 19, 2009 – Shanghai/Leverkusen - Specialty chemicals company LANXESS AG has inaugurated a new production line for the leather chemical LEVOTAN® at its Wuxi site in China. The production line will have an initial output of 1,800 metric tons per year.
LEVOTAN® LB is a polymer tanning material based on modified polyamide carboxylic acid with a softening and filling effect for use in the retannage of chrome and vegetable leather.  It not only provides low specific weight, but also results in excellent softness and uniform grain pattern after milling and a unique pleasant touch.
“This new production line reinforces LANXESS’ role as a leading supplier of softening polymer tanning materials. It helps us to fulfill the increasing demand for chemicals for the tanning of leather with a low specific weight,” said Dr. Rainier van Roessel, member of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG, at the inauguration ceremony.
Dr. van Roessel added that the investment underlines LANXESS’ strategy of strengthening its local presence in the promising BRIC markets, in particular China, whose domestic economy is expected to grow by more than eight percent this year—an outstanding performance given the global economic crisis.
The ceremony was also attended Wuxi Party Secretary Yang Weize as well as Dr. Juergen Ruettgers, Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Dr. Ruettgers attended the inauguration accompanied by a delegation including German and Chinese businessmen, government officials and representatives of the media.
In his speech, State Premier Ruettgers praised the strong relationship between North Rhine-Westphalia and China as well as its partner provinces Jiangsu and Sichuan. The cities of Wuxi and Leverkusen in North Rhine-Westphalia, where LANXESS is headquartered, have been partner cities since 2006.
Dr. Ruettgers said, “We are always interested to learn about a German company’s business activities in China and I am especially impressed by the high production standards, occupational safety and environmental protection at the site here in Wuxi.”
LANXESS Wuxi is located at the Wuxi National High and New Tech Industrial Development Zone and has more than 300 employees.  The company produces chemical products for leather processing and engineering plastics.  In 2009, LANXESS Wuxi received two awards – the “Safe Producing and Integrity Enterprise in Jiangsu Province in 2008” and “Outstanding Wuxi Company in Implementing Social Responsibility”.  Both awards recognized LANXESS’ commitment to operating safely and in an environmentally conscious way.
LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 6.58 billion in 2008 and currently around 14,600 employees in 23 countries. The company is represented at 46 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals. Parisian Label ‘Marthe Aime’ to debut at 'A La Mode' during London Fashion Week

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 04, 2009 – Their Catwalk presentation will take place at the prestigious Charing Cross Hotel in Central London on 19 September from 7.30pm.
Marthe Aime is a family run fashion label by Steven, Barbara and Bernadette Asei-Dantoni based and manufactured in Paris. They create perennial lines based on their philosophy: “a model worn today can be still worn tomorrow”.
The label arose from a desire to rethink the up-market textile accessory by creating new clothing codes. The symbolic accessory of the brand is the "col"("collar") which, trivialized on clothes, parts from it and invents to become the inescapable element of the wardrobes. Ensured to compliment all the dresses, it plays with overlapping to flatter the rising looks, accomodes romantic styles, evenings, "business class" or urban... Around the declensions of "col" come to be transplanted the other models such as jewels, cuffs, gaiters.
Marthe Aime defines its universe in a free spirit of creation, which refers to no trends of fashion, but is inspired by the timeless elegance. Its cups borrowed from various periods of time binds the past and the present, in a modern neo-classic spirit.
The Marthe Aime line is currently stocked in Madrid and Barcelona.
Marthe Aime will present their new collection to an audience of press, buyers, other fashion professionals and upscale consumers.
Sponsors supporting the event include Guoman Hotels, Carolina Faria, The Session Make-up school , 4 Seasons Shop, Sip Water, Love Genevieve Fashion Art and Brushstrokes.

To A Tee: Everyone Is Dying To Wear Tea Dyed Tees

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 25, 2009 – Tea Dyed Tees/www.TeaDyedTees.com
Contact Janis: Tea@TeaDyedTees.com
To A Tee: Everyone Is Dying To Wear Tea Dyed Tees
Oconee, South Carolina, August, 2009: Tea Dyed Tees offers a fun, fashionable way to enjoy your tea – by wearing it. Tea expert and entrepreneur Janis Badarau – founder, editor, and publisher of TeaGuide Worldwide Tea Directory (http://www.TeaGuide.net) and Tea Entrepreneurs Association (http://www.TeaEntrepreneurs.org) – has launched yet another brainchild for tea lovers. Find stylish tea shirts, tank tops, embroidered blouses, trend-setting scarves, home décor, Battenburg lace gifts, and an exclusive line of laundry soap for expert care of each artistic creation. Badarau’s experience dyeing with tea spans many years, originally limiting her handicrafts to gifts for friends and “friends of friends.” Recently, in response to increased demand for her work, Badarau opened her Tea Dyed Tees shop to the public.
Each Tea Dyed Tees piece is an exclusive, unique, handcrafted work of wearable art, dyed with real tea (Camellia sinensis). Shades range from a warm golden "tea with honey," to a rosy beige, to a rich brown “tea with milk.” All pieces are available plain and pure, or can be embellished with Tea Dyed Tees’ signature designs: the “cha” Chinese character for tea, elegant tea leaves, or a variety of other motifs. Each design is offered in your choice of complementary color for year-round fashion.
A Brief History of Tea Dyeing (http://www.teadyedtees.com/about.html) – During Victorian times, fabrics of all kinds were dyed with tea to produce a “vintage” appearance. But this art may have begun even earlier as references have been found dating back to 1869 Venetian nobility. Everything old truly is new again.
Because tea colors tend to be unstable, tea is often blended with commercial dyes and chemicals to achieve precise colors and effects. Badarau, however, has developed an all-natural formula for tea dyeing that stabilizes and enhances the full spectrum of tea colors. She never uses commercial dyes or chemical additives. Every Tea Dyed Tees textile is dyed naturally with tea – and only tea – utilizing a proprietary dyeing process for utmost color depth and preservation through numerous washings.
Tea Dyed Tees products are available both retail and wholesale. Contacts above. For media inquires and further contact information please email tea@teadyedtees.com

Tea Dyed Tees updates the traditional art of tea dyeing with beau-tea-ful one-of-a-kind, handcrafted shirts, scarves, accessories, and home decor, all dyed in rich tea colours. Versatile styles and shades complement any wearer, any outfit, any home.

The Secret to Remaining Comfortable When Outdoor Temperatures Fluctuate

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 23, 2009 – Current laboratory research promises that, in the not too distant future, outdoor work apparel will be manufactured with “smart fibers” that automatically open and close to release or retain body heat and moisture as temperatures fluctuate.
But until that “automated day” arrives, workers will have to depend on the “old fashioned” method of properly layering their workwear to maintain personal comfort while on the job.
People tend to be aware of the need to layer their clothing during colder weather, but seem to forget that doing so when the climate gets hotter is also effective, says Adam Soreff of UniFirst, a company that provides work uniforms and services to diverse industries throughout North America. “If you use the appropriate number of layers beneath your uniform — usually one or two — and select the right type of fabrics, you’ll always be noticeably more comfortable no matter which direction the temperature heads.”
When layering clothing beneath work apparel, particular attention should be paid to the very first layer, the one that touches the skin, Soreff says. “The inner or base layer should always be made of a tightly woven synthetic or synthetic and natural fiber blend, which protects and insulates but also wicks cold or hot sweat away from the skin. It’s this kind of fabric, by the way, that’s used in lots of casual and fashionable sportswear today; and I suspect their popularity is at least partially due to their wicking characteristics.”
As with most rules, there are exceptions. And in the best-fabric-next-to-skin case, Soreff says there’s one as well: If anyone is working in conditions where flammability risks exist, the first layering fabric should be manufactured from cotton or specially rated flame resistant fabrics—neither of which will melt like synthetics to cause additional damage to skin tissue. In threatening work environments, Soreff says layering should always be done in accordance with existing industry protective standards.
Meanwhile, under general work conditions, a second layer of clothing should consist of loosely woven fibers such as wool, cotton, or a synthetic mix. “Such fabrics allow air to be trapped for insulation purposes but they also absorb excessive sweat to facilitate the evaporation process,” Soreff says. “In warmer work conditions, a second layer, naturally, may not be needed.”

A worker’s outer uniform generally serves as the outer clothing layer; it should be manufactured from a tighter weave fabric to provide maximum protection from surrounding environments. “The uniform fabric should also have some degree of stretch to accommodate body movement,” Soreff says. “A good choice here is usually a cotton/polyester blend which provides comfort in concert with long-lasting durability.”
Finally, in extreme cold or wet weather conditions, Soreff says a worker’s uniform could become the next-to-last defense against the elements, with an insulated vest or water repellant jacket being used to ward off the elements. So, although “smart fibers” have not yet arrived, Soreff says workers who use the “old fashioned” layering technique will nonetheless be “smartly dressed.”

U.S. & European technical textiles industry leaders: In global recession innovation becomes even mo

PRLog (Press Release) – Mar 25, 2009 – Key U.S. and European leaders in the technical textiles industry will meet to discuss how the industry will recover and meet new, emerging challenges at the second Advanced Textiles '09 Conference, 2-3 April in Brussels. This select gathering includes influential representatives of the industry, government, textiles organizations and trade press.
Organised by the Industrial Fabrics Association International and IHOFMANN, the 1.5-day conference will take place at the Hotel Bloom in Brussels, and features an inspiring, high-level program.
Thirty experts from Europe and the U.S. will share their know-how and new technology applications, providing attendees with promising leads for cooperation and interdisciplinary business ventures. Five thematic sessions provide an outlook on the most auspicious applications of technical textiles in the next two to five years.  Hot topics include: Smart Textiles (wearable materials that incorporate electronics); Textile Membranes and Architecture (for sustainable design); Medical and Biomedical Applications; Safety and Protective Textiles (including high-performance applications for the military); Transportation and Logistics (how smart textile reinforcements in tires reduce cost and increase performance; light-emitting digital fabrics and nanotechnology sensors in transport systems).
Isa Hofmann, CEO of IHOFMANN and conference organizer explains the conference message, "There is no innovation without creative destruction. AT'09 invites executives from the textile industry to get connected to the future! Creativity and innovation fuel our contemporary economy, and this year's exciting program will fuel entrepreneurial spirits eager for knowledge and dedicated to business success."
"Crises always offer the opportunity for a fresh start, since we assess our environment in a different way and reconsider beaten paths. This allows 'the new' to prevail.  Trend experts predict a new wave for authenticity--authentic products that truly enhance our quality of life, and technical textiles in the various sectors will make a major contribution in this paradigm shift," Hofmann says.
Keynote Lectures will highlight new areas for growth and transatlantic cooperation--

•   Paul J. Kullman, Senior Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy, Belgium, presents: "Transatlantic Trade & Investment: Challenges and Opportunities."
•   Dr. Reinhard Büscher, Head of Unit, D2 Support for Innovation, EU Commission presents: "Transatlantic economic cooperation focusing on eco-innovation and entrepreneurship to achieve sustainable growth in a competitive world."
•   Michèle Sioen, CEO of Sioen Industries and President of Fedustria, presents: "Technical Textiles processing and innovative coating technologies for various industrial applications."
According to Stephen Warner, President and CEO of the Industrial Fabrics Association International, "The worldwide economic troubles will not last forever. There are already signs that the worst is past. On 15 March, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said he believed the current recession could be turning around by the end of this year. Now is not the time to be sitting on the sidelines. Our conference will help companies get ready to take advantage of a revived economy."
